Digital Jewelry – yes you read it right! When we hear about Jewelry, various ornaments come to our mind may be bracelet, necklace, earrings etc. In this era, it is the miracle of technology that you will be able to wear these kinds of ornaments that will be working in order with your cell phones or other such devices.

We have already used the wireless watches and other wireless components. The combination of shrinking computer devices and increasing computer power has made possible the production of Digital jewelry. Today, technology has made it possible to place millions of transistors on a microchip and can be used to make devices which store digital data. Digital Jewelry will be one most important advancement of this time. The whole concept behind this is being able to communicate to others by means of wireless appliances with being fashionable at the same time. History of Digital Jewelry

The history of Digital Jewelry is dated to 16th century when a digital pocket watch was invented. Later in 1994, wrist computer was invented. The wrist computer contained keyboard along with the synchronous display. Also a necklace was invented which was in sync with the nervous and showed red and blue signals according to the impulses of the nervous system. Hence, the invention or discovery of Digital Jewelry is dated back to centuries and is now evolving with great advancements.

Digital Jewelry is the term coined for the jewelry that works with the help of wireless communication and embedded intelligence. This wearable computers that allow you to communicate by ways of e-mail, voicemail, and voice communication.

Now, you can connect with your boss by just talking to your necklace. Digital Jewelry helps you solve the problems of forgotten passwords and security. These devices have tiny processors that interact with local sensors. These devices contain personal info like passwords, identification, and account info etc. These devices can be your replacement of driver’s license, business cards, credit cards and loose cash because this is now possible with Digital Jewelry devices. Everyone has common dilemma of forgotten password and is majorly solved by Digital Jewelry.

Digital Jewelry and its components

Soon, the cell phones won’t come totally as a device. It will be broken up into their basic components and packaged as various pieces of jewelry or other devices. Each piece may contain a chip or sensor or the component necessary that will work as Digital Jewelry. Thus, all the components of Digital Jewelry will together work as conventional cell phone. Some of the examples of Digital Jewelry Components of a cell phone:

Earrings: Speakers embedded into these earring work as phone’s receiver.

Necklace: users will talk into the necklace with the person on other side.

Ring: Ring is fitted with LED’s to denote the incoming call. This is the most interesting component programmed to flash different color lights. Along with the incoming calls flashing, it can also tell you that email is piling in your inbox.

Bracelet: This bracelet will work as a call identifier which will display the name and phone number of the caller. The keypad and dialing function will be integrated into the bracelet maybe with voice recognition software, where you have to simply say the name of the person and the phone will be dialed. A miniature rechargeable battery can also be included to power these components.

Some Designs:

Garnet Ring – The ring contains a microprocessor. It vibrated to let you know that you have received a message from someone.

Java Ring – There has been a tremendous advancement in technology. But this technology is habitual to passwords and lock & key mechanism. Sometimes it becomes frustrating to remember all the passwords and keys needed to open the door. This Java Ring is being developed that will automatically unlock doors and log in to computer.

Advantages:

  1. Security – This is one of the most important advantage. Ring is used to unlock doors or computers. Hence we don’t need passwords or keys to unlock them. We don’t need to remember all those passwords for all different applications and devices.
  2. It is not necessary to carry cell phone or computer as computing devices are embedded.
  3. Wireless technology, hence can be carried anywhere.
  4. Dynamic Programming is supported.
  5. Function able in any environment.

Disadvantages:

  1. Charging facility is available hence can be carried anywhere.
  2. Cost is high as compared to other devices.
  3. Display is small because of the small size of ornaments.

Conclusion

The use of wireless devices is increasing in day to day life. Along with wireless devices, wearable devices are also used. Thus, the combination of both wireless and wearable devices have given rise to digital jewelry. The size of the devices is also another major factor in advancement of technology. At the end of decade, the scenario could be like we would be wearing computers instead of sitting in front of them.

The basic concept behind digital jewelry is to have convenience along with remaining fashionably sound. However due to several bugs, the technology has not been marketable in the market. Charging capability and cost are the problems that lurk. Hence the computers will be surely compatible with the human form in form of Digital Jewelry.
