A Samsung Gear S3 Frontier Review: Should You Buy One

Although launched over two years ago, Samsung Gear 3 smartwatch still ranks the highest in Amazon’s best-selling list. Designed like a regular watch, the Gear 3 encompasses features that are not available in any other smartwatch in the market.

To gain an overview of the product, here’s what you should know before buying it:

1. Design and Specs

Featuring a circular dial with 1.3 inch ‘super AMOLED display’, the watch gives you significantly more room for applications as compared to its square alternative. With easy shortcuts and an extremely touch sensitive circular bezel, you can scroll through apps and messages, and also answer calls. Further, a left twist will show you all the notifications and a right one takes you to multiple widgets almost instantly.

Weighing at 64 grams, the Gear S3 is highly durable and features a stainless-steel body. It also contains a 380 mAH Lithium Ion battery that can function without a charge for a couple of days.

To sum up the features of the smartwatch:

• Dust, dirt and waterproof. It can withstand submersion for 30 minutes, up to about 1.5 meters.
• 3-inch gorilla glass touchscreen with over 16 million color shades.
• 768MB RAM and 4GB internal storage
• Bluetooth connectivity

• Sensors including accelerometer, barometer, heart rate and gyro.

2. Watch Faces

Samsung offers some great looking faces for the watch, ranging from Rs. 75 to . Rs. 380. There’s a range of free faces available as well, so you can change your look every week!

3. GPS Apps

The watch comes with a number of GPS applications that can be installed via the galaxy wearable app, installed on your android or Apple phones. You can download the following applications:

• MapMyRun

MapMyRun keeps track of your walking and running patterns and gives analytics about the distance you covered, time taken, calories burnt and your heart rate. The app works even if your phone isn’t nearby!

• Navigation Pro

Navigation pro is another great application offered by the Samsung Gear S3 Frontier watch. Like the name suggests, it gives you directions to your destination from right off on your wrist!

4. Health Apps

With a number of sensors integrated into the smartwatch, it helps you monitor your health by downloading some simple applications, that are synced with the Samsung Health App on your phone. It can track your steps, heart rate, water and caffeine intake and sleep quality.

• GymRun

GymRun keeps note of your weight and workout exercises. You can use customized workouts – designed from your phone, and track them with your watch!

• G’night Sleep tracker

G’night Sleep tracker is another great application designed to track your sleeping patterns and any movements you make during the night. It also features an alarm system.

Apart from the above applications, there is also a number of other apps that you can easily download. You can pay with your credit card, make and receive phone calls, get readings from the Barometer and the Altimeter directly from your watch! Available on Amazon for around Rs. 22,990, the watch is definitely a good value for your money – given the feature it encompasses!
