Blue Brain

Blue Brain (Virtual Brain)

Man is known as intelligent because of his brain. We differentiate man from animals due to his thinking capacity and his intelligence. But all his power and intelligence is destroyed after his death. We cannot the information or knowledge present in the brain after the death of person. Thus, for this a few years back, scientists started researching in for the virtual brain that can store information or we are able to access information after his death. And they came to a solution of the inventing the first virtual brain. The name of the world’s first virtual brain is Blue Brain.

Research

The brain which functions like a machine is called the ‘Blue Brain’. It can think. It can respond. It can take decisions. It can store things in memory. Patch clamp electrodes and tissues are involved in the research. The research involves the detailed reconstruction and simulations of mammalian brain. This brain is also able to function in health and disease. Neural science is used for the same. Neural Science is the field that involves the construction of neurons or sensory stimuli. And then coding is used to characterize how the electrical activity of the neurons takes place and how responses can be sent. Blue brain is meant to solve the most common problems of remembering new ideas and facts.

What is Blue Brain?

The IBM is now developing the world’s first virtual brain, the blue brain. Within next 30 years, we will able to scan ourselves in the computers. Virtual Brain can be called as the artificial brain but not actually a natural brain. This brain think and take decisions based on past experience and respond to it. It is possible by using a supercomputer, with a huge amount of storage capacity, processing power and an interface between the human brain and artificial one. Through this interface, the data stored in the natural brain can be up loaded into the computer. So the brain and the knowledge, intelligence of anyone can be kept and used for ever, even after the death of the person.

Need of Virtual Brain

Intelligence is the inborn quality while some need to create it. Today, we are developed because of brain. We often face difficulties in remembering things such as people names, their birthdays, and the spellings of words, proper grammar, important dates, history facts, and etc. In the busy life, everyone wants to be relaxed. Can’t we use any machine to assist with all these? The virtual brain may be a better solution for it. What will happen if we upload ourselves into the computer, we were simply aware of a computer, or maybe, what will happen if we lived in a computer as a program? But the intelligence is lost along with the body after the death of the person. Human society is always in need of such brains and blue brain is the perfect solution for it. With the help of blue brain, intelligence can be alive even after the death of the person.

Functioning of Blue Brain

The human ability to feel, interpret and even see is controlled, in computer like calculations, by the magical nervous system. Yes, the nervous system is quite like magic because we can’t see it, but its working through electric impulses through your body. Blue brain is called as the “most intricately” designed system of our body. Not even engineers have come close to making circuit boards and computers as delicate and precise as the nervous system. To understand this system, one has to know the three simple functions that it puts into action: sensory input, integration, motor output.

Sensory input – the action of getting sensory inputs from the surrounding environment and providing it to the brain is called sensory input. When our eyes see something or our hands feel a warm surface, we get to sense. This sensory cells are called as Neurons. Neurons send the message straight to our brains.

Integration– the interpretation of things that we have felt, touched or tasted. Our body organizes these Reponses in an order to execute. This process is done in brain where neurons have a group together.

Motor Output– after the interpretation of sense, it’s time to act back or respond. However, we see, feel and take a decision. Our brain sends a message through neurons to effector cells, muscle or gland cells, which actually work to perform our requests.

Applications of Blue Brain

Alzheimer- this neurogenic that starts usually and worsens over time. It is the cause of 60% to 70% of dementia. The most common early symptom is difficulty in remembering recent events. As a person condition declines, they often withdraw from family and society. This problem can be overcome with help of Blue brain.

Short term memory- It is the capacity for holding, but not manipulating, a small amount of information in mind in an active, readily available state for a short period of time. Short term memory can be distinguished from working memory, which refers to structures and processes used for temporarily storing and manipulating information.

For this we require blue brain, a simple chip that can be installed in human brain where short term memory or volatile memory can be avoided.

Conclusion

In conclusion, we will be able to transfer ourselves into computers at some point. Most arguments against this outcome are seemingly easy to circumvent. They are either simple minded or simply require further time for technology to increase. The only serious threats raised are also overcome as we note the combination of biological and digital technologies. Using the Blue Gene supercomputers, up to 100 cortical columns, 1 million neurons, and 1 billion synapses can be simulated at once. Despite of this complexity, it is told can blue brain can come in market by the year of 2023. Also, the problems of remembering the passwords, new ideas or facts can be solved. Blue Brain is also applicable in case of Alzheimer disease and short term memory. Thus, keeping the knowledge of the ideologies alive has become simple with the blue brain.
