This android wrist computer could be more powerful than an iPhone 7

Android Wrist Smartwatch

Ever wished you could take your computer everywhere but without having to carry the weight? Well, that’s exactly the notion TicWris Max smartwatch is built around. Available for $145.99, the smartwatch encompasses all the features in a computer but in a miniature size!

Featuring 4G connectivity and an IP67 waterproof rating, TicWrix Max has a quad-core Mediatek processor, 2880 mAh battery, 8MP front camera with facial recognition, 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage.  Here’s what you need to know about the ‘watch computer’ before you buy one:

  • Design

Resembling the iPhone 3G when seen from above, the watch is 15mm thick, with a footprint of 50×74 mm. It weighs around 155g which might be a little heavier than the smartwatches in the market.

The watch also comes with an ABS plastic and rubber strap that’s 34mm wide and almost 210 mm long, so it can easily be adjusted on any wrist size! Further, it also features a heartbeat sensor, pogo connectors for a charging port and a SIM slot – concealed behind a flap. The device being IP67 rated means that it is waterproof and can resist a few knocks. The pinhole is located on the right-hand side near the microphone in the device.

  • Specifications

Powered by a quad-core Mediatek CPU, the device features 3GB of a system memory and a ROM of 32GB which is equivalent to an iPhone 7. With an 8-megapixel front camera and a nano sim card, the watch has a 2.8-inch 640 x 480-pixel display and a 2.88 Ah battery. If that is not enough it comprises of GPS, Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi as well!

Overall, the device is pretty user friendly and you don’t have to go through the supplied manual to get an idea of how to operate it. The home screen looks like that of a window’s phone. You can slide upwards to launch the pedometer, down to show some ‘basic information’, down and left to get to the quick toggle menu and left to show unopened notifications. Further, like a Samsung phone, sliding up from the main screen will display the applications and if you hold and slide up the screen, the faces of the watch show up.

As for the competition, there’s only one other company, Lemfo, that developed a similar product, however, it’s a little more expensive. Both companies share the same manufacturing firm and seem to be sourcing the same product. The Lemfo ‘watch-computer’ is a little smaller with a 1.88 inch display and 360×320 pixels resolution – which can pose a problem when operated with the latest Android version. Apart from that, the specifications are the same as TicWris Max smartwatch.

Although, the device seems interesting, there’s not much room to enjoy it. It’s heavy and larger than regular smartwatches and has a small screen which can feel a little ‘gimmicky’. Further, it gets really hard to use since all the icons and buttons are cluttered together. Despite having some amazing specification on paper, it fails when it comes to its user interface. It uses a very old Android version and lacks some advanced features as well.

Currently, there are a number of lightweight laptops available, if you’re looking for an easy to carry computer. On the other hand, if you’re looking for a smartwatch, there are some great alternatives available, that cost way less. So, this might not be a good value for money unless you really want a computer on your wrist.
