Huawei announces new P40 series

Amidst the Coronavirus crisis, Huawei brings some good news for all the android users out there. With the newest addition of P40 phones to the P series, the company certainly has taken smart phones to the next level. Featuring 3 models, including P40, P40 Pro and P40 Pro plus, the series come after the successful P30 series, launched in March 2019.

The P40 phones exhibit the newest, jaw dropping technologies that are unique in the market. Coming with a high-resolution camera and tested to be splash, water and dust resistant, the smart phone features 40-megapixel resolution along with the latest Kirin 990 5G chipset. Further, it also showcases three Ultra Vision Leica Quad cameras, including a regular wide camera just like the last series, an ultra-wide snapper which is 5x zoom shooter and lastly another ToF camera for portraits and autofocus assistance. The second camera also offers a new 12-megapixel sensor with RYYB filter that allows more light at nighttime.

All models come in 5 different colors: glossy white, black, blue, matte silver and gold, and will be available for sale by June. The Huawei P40 is expected to come with a price tag of Euro 799, while the P40 Pro will be available for Euro 999 and P40 Pro+ for Euro 1399. According to the announcement made by the company, the P40 and P40 pro will be up for sale by 7th April, whereas the more advanced model – i.e. P40 Pro+, will become available by June.

There is no major difference between the three models, however, as the name suggests, P40 is the simplest of all, offering 128 GB storage. The P40 Pro comes with 256 GB storage and the plus version offers 512 GB of memory. All three, however, have the same RAM at 8GB.

The Pro versions share a number of specifications, including a 6.58-inch octa flex display that curves on both sides. The display also supports Quad HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate, along with DCI-P3 HDR color gamut. The P40, on the other hand, features a 6.1-inch display.

The three cameras are probably the most outstanding feature of the series. While the base version of the smart phone’s camera is capable of 3x optical zoom, P40 Pro features a time-of-flight depth sensor and a periscope design to allow 5x optical zoom. The Pro+ takes it one step further, providing 10x zoom which can be increased to 100x zoom using digital effects. This is comparable to Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Ultra, however, Huawei claims that its cameras produce a better picture.

The advanced cameras also feature AI techniques capable of removing undesired objects from a scene and eliminating glass reflections. It also offers a super slow-motion video with 7680 frames per second and a 32-megapixel selfie camera that can record in 4K.
